TRAINING FOR COMMUNITY CHILD PROTECTION COMMITTEE (CCPC) MEMBERS ON CASE MANAGEMENT AND REFERRAL PATHWAYS

The Department of Social Welfare through the UNICEF Child Protection Project organized a day capacity-building workshop for members of the Community Child Protection Committee (CCPC) at Nuanua Mfante, Assin South District.

The CCPCs were formed in collaboration with Child Research for Action and Development Agency (CRADA) and Transroyal. Present at the training were CCPCs from Nuanua Asubone, Nuanua Bunsu, Nuanua Mfante and Nuanua Agave all of Assin South District.

The purpose of the workshop was to furnish the members of CCPC on issues pertaining to child protection as part of interventions put in place by the Department Social Welfare with support from UNICEF. The CCPCs were trained to advocate for the protection of children, respond effectively to issues concerning vulnerable groups and make necessary referrals to the appropriate Departments/Agencies when the issues encountered are beyond their authority given to them.

The training took place on Tuesday 6th of June, 2023. The training covered topics such as; Who is a child, The four principles of the UNCRC, The Children’s Act 1998 (Act 560) and Referral Pathways. The training also covered education on Social Welfare child protection programmes and activities.

Participants during the training contributed in diverse ways by sharing cases they have already encountered that they explained needed this education to navigate through or refer. They voiced their roles in their various communities not only taking part on child protection cases, but also seeking to address some deeply rooted traditional norms and values that are essentially hurtful to children’s development.
