Nutrition Unit in collaboration with Environmental Health Unit coordinated key intervention on nutrition for the improvement of the school feeding program, educate food vendors, and meet stakeholders, schools and teachers on nutrition improvement. Some of these interventions included nutrition surveillance, nutrition education, training and orientation of caterers, food vendors, nutrition education at PTAs meetings, communities and the general public. Nutrition counselling, control of micronutrient deficiency disorders and monitoring and supervision.
Nutrition Education and Counselling undertaken
The following activities were carried out to educate the target audience on priority nutritional issues (Nutrition Oriented Interventions)
- Social and Behavioural Communication Change (SBCC) was organized by key stake holders and priority groups to create awareness about the Girl Iron Folic Tablets Supplementation (GIFTS) programme.
- Orientation of caterers of the school feeding programme
- Orientation of food vendors in the District on food hygiene
- Monitoring to restaurants and chop bars in the District.
- Training of trainers was organized for Schools on ‘THE 4 STAR DIET’
- Six (6) sessions on nutritional issues were discussed on radio
